Darn ellipses. Now I understand why James McMullan makes them the subject of one of his entries. Ellipses are everywhere. Learning to master them is pretty darn crucial. Try as I may to conceal my lack of mastery of ellipses with implausible cross-hatching, I cannot lie: they are hell to draw. Pilot V5 in my "babylogue" moleskine.

Not too shabby, perfect ellipses or not!
Thanks for sharing the James McMullan series. Didn't get to the ellipses yet.

Just remembered about your blog (after three years without reading it). A lot of catching up to do. And still this persasive sense of frustration that I could never draw as well as you.
I can draw ellipses though. Think of them as orbits. Not ovals, not squashed circles, just orbits.

Yes ellipses are difficult. You chose an object with such a lot of them. Beautiful rendering of the tones.

Thank you, your work is inspiring. I don't like this one at all, not one bit - so thank you again; for being fallible.
