I have been itching to do a sketch of Jorge Rendón Alverdi for years now and my first attempt also coincided with my first real use of the Procreate app for the iPad. I think I understand what all the fuss is about. This app allows me to spin the drawings in all directions (instead of the iPad itself!) to make my little hatches.
I wanted to achieve looseness and I did exactly the opposite. I got obsessive. I might have to start the whole thing over. Not so much to produce a drawing, but to practice loosening up, and letting the pen (or stylus, as it were) decide where it's all going.
Here is the finished (as finished as it will be, that is) drawing that I sent Jorge tonight:

Amazing the difference the strong darks make. Adding drama.
