I am about to retire two pairs of shoes that I have worn, respectively, for 12 and 10 years. I have finally decided they were both worn enough. I just bought their replacement (a pair of hiking shoes), and I feel it is time to let go of my old New Balance and my old Merrells. I will have a difficult time relinquishing the comfort I have felt for a whole decade in my ugly Merrells, the ones that got me the following remark on two separate occasions (years apart, even), by two different people, in two different countries: "Are you really going to wear these?". But I loved (still do) that stitch in the middle and the fact I could just slip them on without having to untie the laces. Great, great shoes. 3B pencil on Bristol paper.
