I borrowed a little book of photographs by Steve McCurry from school. I had not drawn anything in pencil for about a week, and was itching to do a portrait tonight. This is an Pakistani man, that Tom asserts i "made look like Bob Dylan". 2B "fat" Cretacolor graphite lead on Canson.

Lunch

I am nearing the end of my "crappy" sketchbook which i had started in late July '07. It is deserving of more color. I have a bucketful of colored pencils in my classroom that i had never used -- only lent to students when needed. As it turns out, they're pretty neat. Sadly, eating M&Ms for lunch while making photocopies, grading papers or working in the computer lab happens more often than i'd like to admit :-)

Twins

I was in a composition and design class today, covering for a colleague. I don't like crayons at all, in fact i never colored with them as a kid. I used colored pencils. And still do. But they're cute when they're sitting by their lonesome on a table.

Funny how i see kids at school that i never seem to have seen before. It was the case with this one student this morning. I had never seen his face -- not that i saw much of it today anyway, given the hair! I drew a few angles in my little Moleskine.

15 minutes with D. Ward

When the urge to draw strikes, sometimes all i have at my disposal is a piece of Xerox paper and my Pilot pen. If that. I came across this picture of D. Ward on Flickr, and his expression, as well as the atmosphere of the picture made me want to draw him.
